Chakra Meditation: It’s Not a Vegetable!
Are you new to meditation? If so then you may have several questions about meditation. For example, do you know what the word “chakra” means? No, it is not a vegetable! The American Heritage Dictionary provides the following definition: “Chakra – One of the seven centers of spiritual energy in the human body according to yoga philosophy.” This definition is starting off point, but still may seem confusing especially if you are not familiar with yoga.
Chakra is also a Sanskrit word that means “wheel”. In the context of chakra meditation it focuses on the seven energy centers in our body. You may think that your heart is the sole energy source of your body, but this is not true. It takes the combination of energy and functions of your other organs and body parts to keep you alert and alive. This same mentality applies to your chakra. Your body can be broken into seven areas that each has their own energy source except that these chakras are made up of your consciousness instead of your physical organs or body parts.
Essentially your chakras are composed of your senses and perceptions. An example would be when you feel stressed. This sense of stress causes your nerves and endocrine system to speed up. This reaction occurs in a specific chakra. Over time stress in this chakra can lead to physical symptoms such as an ulcer.
How does chakra meditation work?
The beginning of your chakra meditation journey is in your consciousness. You are in control of what you think and feel even though sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. You create your own reality whether you realize it or not. For example, you may perceive a complication at work as a problem instead of an opportunity. This conscious perception causes your stress level to rise in your physical body.
This perception in your consciousness or your attitude affects your life energy. This life energy is composed of the seven chakra categories. You can use chakra meditation to maximize your attitude thus improving your overall body and mind.
What are the seven categories of Chakras?
The seven chakras include: Crown chakra, Brow Chakra, Throat Chakra, Heart Chakra, Solar Plexus Chakra, Orange Chakra, and Root Chakra.
What are the components of each chakra?
Chakras are composed of mind body associations. A chakra includes: Location, color, parts of the body affected, associated endocrine gland, sense, consciousness, and element.
What is an example of a chakra?
Let’s look at the chakra located on the top of your head called the Crown Chakra. The Crown Chakra is associated with the head, brain, and the nervous system. It is associated with the color violet. The Crown Chakra is associated with Pineal Gland and sense of empathy. It is associated with the Inner Light and our connection with our biological father. For example, your Crown Chakra may become closed if you sense separation from your biological father. This can lead to a feeling of isolation. This can prompt a problem with intimacy which can affect your relationships and overall health.
You can learn the components of each chakra and apply them to your chakra meditation. Chakra meditation can help heal your body and soul. It is a potent form of meditation.
