Healing Meditation CD - The Sounds Of Silence

It's often convenient and necessary to practice meditation at home, as opposed to at a class, or on a retreat. Practicing by oneself, at a certain time each day, and in a certain place, helps us cultivate a disciplined approach to our meditation practice. Still, it's not always easy to practice completely alone, and sometimes tools can help remind us why we're doing it, and make the practice easier. One example of this might be a healing meditation CD.

People listen to a healing meditation CD for various reasons. Chief among them is relaxation. Many individuals find they can escape from stress, create inner peace, and find a state of ‘restful alertness’ when they listen to a CD that helps them reach the meditative state more quickly, and for longer, or to remain in a deeper state of meditation.

Other reasons people often cite for listening to a healing meditation CD, include as a way to achieve self-hypnosis, to accelerate emotional healing, to bring the body and mind into alignment, to increase the body’s energy levels, to reduce or eliminate chronic pain, and to get rid of depression (post-natal, post-surgical, or just generalized depression).

Most of these amazing achievements are possible because when you feel more relaxed and stress is reduced or eliminated, it gives your body time and space to heal itself. When the mechanics of the body are working freely and efficiently, it delves into reservoirs of healing energy and makes the necessary adjustments itself, often without the need for medicinal intervention in the form of pills or operations.

A healing meditation CD can vary in its contents. Some of them simply carry music, probably of a fairly sedate pace, which offers the listener a sense of tranquility and slowing down from the bustle of daily life. Music can be incredibly conducive to entering and remaining in a meditative state, and having a particular healing meditation CD that you know helps you with your practice, is extremely useful.

Others might contain guided meditation instructions, whereby a teacher takes the listener through a meditation practice step by step. This type of healing meditation CD is relaxing not only for the practice itself, but because it takes some of the stress out of trying to remember how to practice, and how to keep the mind from wandering. Having someone take you gently through your practice is often very comforting.

Still other kinds of healing meditation CDs might give a selection of dharma-style talks, in which prominent monks, or experienced Buddhists, give a series of lectures or chats about particular aspects of Buddhist philosophy or practice. These are really helpful, not only for the factual information passed on in the content, but for the tone and style of the talks. Very often, Buddhist monks have a great sense of fun and humor, and listening to them not only cheers a person up, but also reminds them not to take life so seriously!
